Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights was developed by the Commission in 2007 and 2008. The Charter was developed with extensive and widespread consultation and specifies the key rights of patients and consumers when seeking or receiving healthcare services. In July 2008, Australian Health Ministers endorsed the charter as the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights for use across the country.  Click here to see the charter 

How to Lodge a Complaint


Pacific Day Surgery has implemented infection control program and staff take every precaution to avoid infections. However, some patients have a higher risk of acquiring an infection in hospital.  We need to avoid infections because they may lead to a longer recovery time. At Pacific Day Surgery, we value your feedback. If you have any concerns or issues during your stay:

  1. Where appropriate, discuss the concern with the staff member providing care so that it can be addressed promptly.

  2. If the concern is not resolved, ask to speak with the person in charge or the Director of Nursing.

  3. Feedback may also be provided to PDS by telephone, email or another available feedback mechanism.

  4. Complaints are acknowledged, reviewed and addressed in a timely and respectful manner, with the patient kept informed as appropriate.

  5. Information from complaints and feedback is analysed for themes, risks and opportunities for improvement and is reported through PDS quality and governance processes.

  6. Where a complaint remains unresolved, PDS provides the patient with current contact details for the Queensland Office of the Health Ombudsman and information about external escalation. Homepage - Office of the Health Ombudsman (oho.qld.gov.au)
